Human Sulfotransferase (SULT) bDNA Probes

The performance of the bDNA probe sets was verified in cultured human hepatocytes. For example, hepatocytes from human livers HL178 and HL201 were treated for three days with 10 µM rifampin or vehicle (0.1% DMSO). The level of CYP mRNA was measured and normalized to that of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) mRNA. The induction of SULT1C2 mRNA by rifampin ranged from 1.7 to 2.6 fold, whereas SULT2A3 mRNA inducibility ranged from 1.5 to 3.7 fold (see figure). The magnitude of SULT1C2 is similar to that of SULT2A3, although the hepatic expression of SULT1C2 mRNA is significantly lower than that of SULT2A3 mRNA (see figure).
